Art Life: Lilly Piri's Relocation

I haven't been able to stop staring at  Lilly Piri's drawing Relocation -- which made it just the right pick for this week's Art Life.  The image is quite haunting-- there seems to be a sadness and innocence behind the figure's gaze. I love how the limited color palette that Piri uses is warm and inviting, and yet still maintains ghost-like qualities. For the Art Life collection, I jumped on the chance to find home items in whites and creams that would really connect in a room that also includes a framed print of Relocation!

Think: Limited color palette of warm whites and creams, Elegance through simplicity, A touch of Nature/Birds

Color Theory | Nathan Ota

I really enjoy how Nathan Ota's color palette creates a strong sense of nostalgia in his illustrations. The collaging of images adds to the feelings of "memory" in Alive, shown above.  Take a look at the rest of Nathan's work on his website, get news on his blog, and you can even buy a print of Alive over at Thumbtack Press!

Art Life: Jillian Nickell's Whale Ship Pygmalion Music Festival Poster

I'm so excited to feature Jillian Nickell's Whale Ship Pygmalion Music Festival Poster on this week's Art Life! When I first saw it, I couldn't get over how creative the whale ship is. What a perfect mix of "in the sea" elements with spot on execution. And the fact that it's an illustration for a music festival makes it that much more fun.

Think: Nautical, Calming Blues, Musical Inspirations

Have a great one! Meet you back here soon? Its a date.

A Little Daylight Savings..

The extra hour of sunlight last night was just what I needed! It's funny, the psychology around daylight; the feeling that there's more time to get things done just because it's not dark outside. I love it, and I'll take it any day with open arms.

Some fresh, clean, spring finds:
  1. Wildflower Honey Sugar Scrub from Green Valley Naturals on Etsy
  2. Nacklace de Plume from Modcloth (check out the other photos, its a huge necklace!)

Art Life: Laura Brink's Pace Mama

This week's Art Life features a wonderful painting by Laura Brink called "Pace Mama." I love how Brink uses color in her work, here mixing subtle blues and greys with vibrant reds and oranges. She also blends patterns and textures together masterfully-- which is key not only in a painting-- but also in fashion and home decor.

Think: Trellis patterning, Textural fabrics, Pops of vibrant color
